Dismantling the exhibition

The truck guys will be arriving at the High Court at 11am on Friday December 11th to whisk away the panels and computers. You need to be there on the knocker of 9:30am to pull down your prints and anything else that is yours. It shouldn't take long but we'll appreciate any help in pulling down the panels from the windows.

All VELCRO should be removed from your panel as well. Try to be very careful when doing this, no knives, axes or machetes please.

If you cannot be there please arrange for someone to do it for you, any work left on the panels will be removed by staff but we cannot be held responsible for any damage or loss. Then it's 'all over red rover' and you can go off and enjoy your break (or release) from CIT. Have a wonderful Christmas.

Borrowed gear and outstanding printing bills.

Dave has asked me to remind you that all borrowed gear should have been returned by Friday Dec 4th. and all outstanding printing bills should have been paid by the same date.

Please make it a priority to return and pay as soon as possible. Dave needs to close the books

Tuesday night 'pre-assessment'

Hi, as you know the session ear-marked for pre-assessment is this week, Tuesday night to be precise, usual time. We'll all meet in the boardroom at 5:30pm, I'll supply the refreshments and you supply the pics. We just want to have a final get together with everyone so that we can all see your final work and you can see the work of others. A slideshow is fine but if you have prints that can easily be viewed or you'd simply prefer to show prints please bring them. No stress just a good old-fashioned slide evening.

Just a 'heads-up'. Silvia has returned to Colombia at short notice to be with her father who has been ill for some time. She sends her apologies for not being able to take part in the assessment or be at the exhibition, she was particularly looking forward to seeing it.

Where: High Court of Australia
Entry: Through security up to 9:45am, through front door thereafter.
Bring: Any work that is still in a folio, a laptop if you wish to show work that way and if you need to show a website you’ll need web access. As a back-up we’ll have a laptop with access as well.
Note: All displays MUST be completed before Monday, it is not possible to be working on your displays while assessment is in progress.

Some dates

Things always change as the semester progresses and since there was a change in the timetable for Prac 6 I thought I'd confirm some dates.

Group A has one more checkpoint next Wednesday 4 Nov (week 14 and Group B one more on Tuesday 10 Nov (Week 15)

Week 16 - Finishing works as required, see us if you need to.

Week 17 - Pre-assessment is the wrong word, we'll organise a session on the Tuesday where we can view your final work in short sharp time slots. This is just to make sure there are no issues prior to the hanging two days later at the High Court. Better to discuss it on Tuesday than after you've arrived at the hanging. If you still have some finishing of the work to do that is fine, if they are in the process of being printed or mounted that's also fine, we just want to check what we'll see on Thursday and if some is still digital that's OK. If there are printing problems with final images on Thursday you will have to sort it before the start of assessment on the Monday following.

Week 18 - Monday and Tuesday your assessment sessions will take place at the High Court, we'll put up a list of people and times soon. You can swap times if you wish. More details on what to do and how to do it in the next week or so. Wednesday December 2nd is the opening of the exhibition. Thursday, it's all over red rover. Dismantling of the exhibition is mmm Friday, must check with Penny!

Assessment this year

Hi, there is a rumour going around that you need to print BOTH a folio of prints and work for the exhibition. The assessment will take place at the High Court and will include your displayed images, extra images that you wish to show in print form and work on your designated iMac.

So no double printing required.

We'll have an informal pre-hanging session in the days before we hang at the High Court to make sure there are no last minute issues that need to be addressed.

All assessment will take place at the High Court on the Monday and Tuesday before the opening.

Group Session this week

Hi Stage 6, as you know we are having a group session this week and we thought Wednesday night would be the best option. You will need to prepare a short visual presentation for the group to show everyone where you are and what you've been doing. It's not a competition, just a chance to get and give feedback within the group. Look forward to seeing you.

Assessment of Prac 6

Hi all, there is a rumour going around that aspects of the Stage 6 assessment are Formative instruments. Just want to make it really clear that there are NO Formative instruments in Prac 6.

Silvia and Julian have put together an assessment strategy that addresses some of the anomalies in the existing course documents so that the assessment is fairer and more transparent. In simple terms the grade you receive for the subject is based on the practical work (folio) so long as all other work is satisfactorily completed and this includes the Process and the Report (critical analysis).

We have spent some weeks developing this and feel confident that it will be fair, transparent and reliable.

This process and the accompanying documentation will be explained to you individually this week at your checkpoints but if you have any questions or wish to discuss it afterwards please see your class teachers, Belinda, Silvia, Geoff and Julian.

Proposals

Hi Stage 6ers, I've spent the afternoon and much of the evening trying to sort out my wifi problems with limited success and so feedback on proposal documentation will take another day, you should know however that the work proposed is fine, start your folios and enjoy. Wifi, huh!

Registration for Semester 2

We will be reregistering third year at 3:00pm on June 9th in class with Penny, although she isn't aware of that yet.

Shouldn't take long.

Blogging away

I have checked all the blogs and *most* of you are underway with posting. You will find it gets easier with time and it also becomes a great resource as you link your research and add favourites. Everyone should now be able to add a blog list on the side of your favourite photographers - (layout/add widget/ link list or blog list). Keep adding to it as you find more inspirational images. Also, please remember to put appropriate credits (at least name and url) on EACH image that you post. Not doing so constitutes breach of copyright laws.

If you have been good bloggers you will find that the material you have posted becomes a big chunk of your fiinal report for the end of the year. SO, I recommend you use proper English rather than txt script, and take care to use capitals when needed, correct grammar etc - I now, very old fashioned, but still the standard in academia!

When we meet today I am hoping you have all organised the strategy and approach to the mid year exhibition so we can sort out a task list. You should also be advancing in your work placement plans.

Checkpoints

Hi Stage 5,

I’m just clarifying the checkpoint dates for location folios, apparently an earlier version of the Brief was printed and given to you with incorrect dates, all Thursdays it seems. I’m very sorry if this caused you any upset. Below are the correct dates for each checkpoint which also accounts for the break and Tasmanian field trip.

You can yell at me next week.
